Versa Net supply, install and support various backup strategies tailored to our customers needs. From conventional Disk to Tape (D2T) ranging to Disk to Disk (D2D) and Disk to Disk to Tape (D2D2T), we have the expertise to secure your business against data loss. Remote site backups can also be catered for, to centralise corporate data asset mangement

Case Study:

ImageOur Customer has 5 servers in production use. The backup strategy employed was a D2T for each server, resulting in the process of 5 tapes being changed daily. Although the backup procedures all logged their results, there was no consolidated report, making confirming the success of the backup a lengthy process that was more often than not skipped. Add to this the complexity of ensuring the correct tape was used to keep the daily/weekly/monthly schedules intact, and you have a backup routine that was doomed to fail.

By implementing a backup server that provides D2D2T functionality, Versa Net was able to reduce the number of tapes being changed daily to two. The backup report is automatically emailed to the system admin daily, and to several people in case of an error status detected. An online archive of the companys data was made available, with disk copies of the data being stored in the typical Grandfather-Father-Son heirachy. Restoration of data can e achieved without resorting to tape, and an offsite copy is achieved with the tape cartridge.

As this solution was implemented with open source technologies, the overall cost of doing backups was reduced, with no expensive vendor lock in required. There are now multiple copies of the data on different media available, greatly reducing the probability for data loss.
